In the tradition of "Like Water For Chocolate" and "IL Postino", The Chambermaid on the Titanic is a mystical and unpredictable
fable full of mad passion and unbearable sensuality.
Horty, a French foundry worker, once again wins the annual grueling triathalon organized by his company's boss. This year the
prize is extraordinary: a round-trip ticket to Southampton, England to watch the Titanic leave on its maiden voyage. In his
Southampton hotel room Horty is approached by Marie (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón), a stunning chambermaid due to board the Titanic
the next day. Believing in Marie's hard luck story of having no place to spend the night, Horty apprehensively agrees to share
his room with the beautiful stranger. In the morning, Horty wakes up alone.
Returning home to his wife (Romane Bohringer), Horty's recount of the night he met Marie morphs into stories of wild sex and
steamy entanglings before an ever-growing audience of barroom cronies. Zoe feels the very real threat of Horty's naked emotions
and joins in on the storytelling in hopes of saving the marriage.
The Chambermaid on The Titanic changes Horty's life forever and takes its viewer on a magical tale of forbidden romance.
Bigas Luna, a Spanish director born in 1946, made his first feature in 1976, but only came to the attention of French
audiences in 1987 with "Anguish" and "Ham, Ham" in 1992. The Chambermaid on the Titanic is his twelfth feature.
