Hussain Amarshi

President and Founder

After graduating from University of Toronto and Queen's University he founded the Kingston International Film Festival in 1989; ran the Euclid Theatre in Toronto; worked on Atom Egoyan and Jeremy Podeswa's earlier films, before setting up Mongrel Media from his bedroom in 1994. Hussain has served on several arts boards and committees over the years. He has many favourite films from the Mongrel library of titles but the first film that Mongrel Media acquired and released in 1995-- The Silences of the Palace -- is his first love.

Jonathan Wyman

Vice President

Jonathan began his professional life in mechanical and environmental engineering, but lunch with a friend fifteen years ago encouraged him to make the switch to filmed entertainment. Since then, he has worked with a select group of Canada's most successful and respected independent distributors.

Andrew Frank

Vice President, Sales and Acquisitions

Prior to working at Mongrel, he was a consultant for Robert Redford's Sundance Cinemas flagship theatre in Madison. He also owned and ran Visions Cinema in Washington.

Ai Tsuzuki

Materials Manager

Ai began her career working for filmmakers as well as in foreign film sales at Alliance Atlantis. When not shopping around the world for technical and publicity materials for Mongrel's various departments, she can be found renovating and gardening in her new home.

Alice Dutrut

Marketing & Sales Coordinator, Mongrel International

Alice holds a degree in Cultural Studies from McGill University. When not watching films, she enjoys listening to and creating radio documentaries.

Alison Zimmer

Theatrical Sales Coordinator

Originally from Halifax, Alison began her career at the Toronto International Film Festival, working on festival programming and TIFF Film Circuit. She’s a member of the Drunk Feminist Films collective, and enjoys making ice cream and volunteering in her spare time. She holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto and is currently pursuing an MBA at the Rotman School of Management.

Caroline Habib

Director, Mongrel International

Caroline earned a B.A. in Film Studies and Art History at the University of Montreal and completed a graduate diploma in arts management at HEC. She has been with Mongrel since 2008 and previously worked with various prestigious distribution companies.

Chantal Chateauneuf

Acquisitions & Sales Executive, Mongrel International

Born and raised in Vancouver, Chantal holds a B.A. (Hons) in Art History from McGill University. The transition from visual art to film was a natural one.

Danish Vahidy

Director of Marketing, Theatrical Releasing

Danish has worked on numerous high-profile films at distributors such as Metro Goldwyn Mayer and Polygram Filmed Entertainment. Danish also sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Picture Pioneers Trust Fund. He lives in Leslieville with his wife and son.

Darrin Laframboise

Darrin has worked extensively as a graphic designer in the world of film and publishing for over a decade. A "Movie Geek" in every respect, Darrin enjoys lengthy discussions about cinema and the filmmaking process – much to the chagrin of his friends and family.

Jeff Garneau

Materials Coordinator

Jeff graduated from York University’s film production program and has since worked with numerous directors and producers throughout the film industry. He’s worked as an editor, writer’s assistant, production manager and assistant director on a variety of commercials, shorts and features. He writes and directs films in his spare time.

Jensen Lee

Creative Services & Digital Marketing Manager

Jensen holds a Bachelors of Design from York University and Sheridan College. Prior to his position at Mongrel, Jensen had worked as a graphic designer & creative marketing with several of the leading independent film distributors and festivals in Canada including Maple Pictures, Alliance Films, and the Toronto International Film Festival. Jensen's interests include poutine, Leafs and world-travel.

Jessica La Grassa

Manager of Sales, Home Entertainment & Ancillary

A University of Ottawa alumnus, Jessica received her B.Com. from the Telfer School of Management. She began her career in film distribution at Anchor Bay, eventually working at their London, England office for several years. Since returning to Canada, Jessica has held production and marketing roles at Maple Pictures, Alliance Films and eOne. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the globe and experiencing Toronto’s vibrant culinary scene.

Karina Messner

Karina fell in love with film and theatre while on working holiday in Melbourne. Once back home, she began her career in Canadian film distribution with Maple Pictures and has since worked with both Alliance Films and eOne. When not watching films, Karina can be found cooking, practicing yoga or enjoying craft beers.

Kelly Wray

After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from Carleton University, Kelly began her career in the home entertainment industry in 2008 in accounts receivable. She has since worked in distribution, sales & marketing coordination, and product management. In her spare time, she runs an art gallery on Dundas Street West where she hosts a variety of art exhibitions and events.

Marko Orlic

Theatrical Marketing Coordinator

After graduating from the University of Toronto, Marko has worked in the film industry in a number of capacities: distribution, programming, journalism/blogging, and on-set production. When not marketing the finest pictures Mongrel has to offer, you can catch him blabbering about the movie he just saw at a local theatre or festival, DJing bars in Toronto's west end, programming films, attending all of the concerts, love-hating the Raptors and Jays, writing, or podcasting.

Milica Dodic

Contracts & Business Affairs Coordinator

After completing her H.B.A. at the University of Toronto, Milica began working in the film industry, with positions at Ouat Media, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, and the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Her passion for the arts has transferred to her nail art business. When she’s not watching films or painting nails, she loves to cook up a storm in the kitchen, with her dog Yoshi by her side.

Neil Mathieson

Manager of Business Affairs, Mongrel International

Neil graduated from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and a second major in Film in 2012. Following graduation Neil joined Global Incentives Inc becoming a Sr Project Manager specializing in tax incentive financing. During his time at Global he administrated over $200M in tax credits, while advising producers and providing security to financiers. Some of the projects he worked on at Global Incentives include: Sicario, Birdman, and The Revenant.

Tom Alexander

Director, Theatrical Releasing

Before joining Mongrel in 2001, Tom worked in various capacities with Alliance Atlantis Communications, Famous Players, and the Toronto International Film Festival Group, among other organizations. He holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business (Marketing, and Arts & Media Administration).
